Renting questions

The stuff renters ask first

Do I need my landlord’s permission?

Nothing is drilled, bolted or wired into the building — the panels sit on a stand or strap to a fence and the inverter plugs into an existing outdoor outlet, like any appliance. Most leases have no issue with that, but it’s worth a quick heads-up to your landlord before you order.

What happens when I move?

Unplug it, unhook the panels, put them in the car. Setup at the new place takes about as long as it did the first time. That’s the whole point of a plug-in system.

My townhome has a tiny yard. Is it worth it?

If you have a few feet that catch afternoon sun — a patio corner, a side yard, a fence line — that’s enough for a kit. Small spaces are exactly what these were designed around.

What about my HOA?

Because nothing is permanently attached and the panels sit low behind the house, most setups stay well inside HOA rules. Read your guidelines first — and note that several states limit how far HOAs can restrict solar devices.
